Part of my Hebrew teaching this year involves creating a series of online lessons that students can use to review and solidify what they’re learning in the classroom. Each slideshow in the עִבְרִית Express series presents a grammar lesson inductively, using only pictures and Hebrew text, then reviews the lesson deductively, explaining the new grammatical ideas in English.
I originally published these lessons on Slideshare, but Slideshare announced yesterday that they’re downgrading their service by removing voiceovers from the slideshows they host. According to Slideshare, they’re removing voiceovers because fewer subscribers use the voiceovers than they had originally projected. I confess my utter inability to see the logic here: “We have a feature that a minority of our paid subscribers use. Since fewer subscribers use it than we anticipated—resulting in lower disk space and bandwidth usage than we expected—we’re removing the feature and nerfing the existing presentations that use it.” Way to alienate paying customers, Slideshare.
At any rate, in order to preserve and present my slideshows as close as possible to the way I intended them to be seen and used, I will be using a tool called Soundslides Plus to host the slideshows here on Higgaion. עִבְרִית Express 1: Talking About Things (an introduction to nouns) is available here now. The other six previously-published installments will follow in short order.
